Free Agent Fiasco

This week is about football. The biggest game of the year. Which to me always symbolizes the return of baseball is right around the corner. But it’s so hard to be excited about anything involving baseball (well we did sign Peter Bourjos to a minor league deal today). And you guys have to be just as tired of reading it, as I am of writing it, nobody is budging on the free agent deals. And Scott Boras seems he’s willing to take this game of chicken all the way to first pitch of spring training. As if he wasn’t one of the most despised people around the game of baseball before.

I have always been an avid believer in don’t chase someone that doesn’t want to be chased. I am absolutely over this Yu Darvish fiasco. He clearly doesn’t value what the Chicago Cubs have built. He maybe doesn’t understand what hells we have been through to worship and adore the players that brought us to the baseball promised land. That combined with an obscene offer (I’m making a lot of assumptions here) is still not got enough. I have heard Milwaukee, Chicago, Los Angeles, Texas are all working toward signing this guy. I get it. He’s good. But there is so much about this I really dislike. There was a time when I wasn’t a Yu fan. I didn’t like Yu (see what I did there). I am beginning to go back to that feeling. I hope, if Theo and company decide he’s worth the coin, he makes me regret ever feeling that way.

I am having a struggle with Bryz of 2016. She wants to hear a rumor about the Cubs being back in talks with Jake Arrieta’s agent about returning to Chicago. Bryz from 2018 is reminding her who his agent is. Somewhere in the middle is who the Cubs actually end up with and regardless of all that, pitchers and catchers report in less than 2 weeks. And then we can focus on just baseball. Until next time…….. Bryz
