Desperate Cubs Look To A Former Closer For Help

The Cubs today signed veteren reliever Cody Allen to a Minor League deal. He will report to the taxi squad in South Bend

Allen’s best year was 2014 with Cleveland. He posted a 2.07 ERA in 69.2 innings pitched. In 2015 he had a career high with 34 saves, and posted 30+ saves for 3 years in a row.

At his peak Allen was a shut down closer. If he can find that form again he could be a huge help to a Cubs bullpen that needs the help badly… I just do not see that happening.

Last year with the Angels he posted a 6.26 ERA in 23 innings. He is a shell of his former self. This looks like it is more of a move to protect the Cubs in case anyone test positive for Covid-19. I strongly believe that will be the only way we see Allen in a Cubs uniform this year.
