It will be ok. Cubs will win today and play game three tomorrow.
In order to do that here are the keys to game:
-The Offense needs to wake up!
Seems simple enough. A lineup that is stacked with superstars should be scoring runs at will. Of course, we all know that is not what is happening. With the exception of Ian Happ yesterday, the Cubs offense was dead. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant combined to go 0-8 with three strikeouts. Javy Baez was a no show again and is chasing pitches that are no where near the strike zone. Stop trying to hit the ball out of the ballpark. Situational hitting will win this game today. If they can do that they will score more than one run in this game.
-Get to Sixto Sanchez Early
If the offense decides to show up today, then they need to get to Marlin’s starter Sixto Sanchez early in the game. His numbers against right handed batters are not good. They are hitting a slash line of .267/.345/.400 against him. I like that David Ross has inserted David Bote at second base today against Sanchez instead of Jason Kipnis. Should be a good matchup for this lineup against Sanchez.
The Cubs need Darvish to be the Cy Young caliber pitcher that he has been. He can not rely on this offense to score multiple runs for him, so he needs to be almost perfect. It is a tall order, but if anyone on this team is up for the challenge, Darvish is the guy.
The Cubs bullpen is in question, after another poor performance by Jeremy Jeffress and Ryan Tepera, the Cubs will turn to Kyle Ryan and Craig Kimbrel to come out of the pen today as needed and shut down the Marlins.
The Cubs have to win today. It is no secret. They have the players and the tools to do it. The question is will they execute. I guess will find out in a few hours.
